Join the SILS diversity group, Checked Out, and the SILS Book Group for a discussion of Does My Head Look Big in This? by Randa Abdel-Fattah on Friday, April 20 at 3:30 in the SILS Library.
Checked Out will be sponsoring our April Book Group! To vote on our diversity-themed discussion book, fill out the survey here by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday March 29!
The votes are in, and we will be discussing A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle on Friday March 23 at 3:30 p.m.–an appropriate choice, as this year marks the 50th Anniversary of the book’s publication! As always, the discussion will be open to everyone in SILS (undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff).
April’s Book Group will be sponsored by Checked Out, the SILS diversity advocacy group. Checked Out welcomes suggestions for any book that prominently features diverse characters or highlights diversity issues as a central plotline. These can be issues of race, class, age, gender, sexuality, ability, or religion. For more information or to suggest a title, please visit http://silsreads.web.unc.edu/
Hope to see you all at the end of the month!
Thank you to the many people who came to last month’s discussion of The Borrower, and the even greater number who voted for this month’s book! The winning title is Running the Books: The Adventures of an Accidental Prison Librarian by Avi Steinberg.
The SILS Library holds one copy, and the Orange County Public Library holds it both in print and as an ebook. Durham and Wake County also hold copies. (Unfortunately, CHPL and the Carrboro Branch Library do not.)
See you Friday, February 24 @ 3:30 in the SILS Library!
Thank you to all who voted for January’s Book Group title! The winning book is The Borrower by Rebecca Makkai. We will discuss The Borrower on Friday, January 27 at 3:30 in the SILS Library. As always, everyone in SILS (undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff, etc.) is welcome to attend!
